This document is plain-spoken on purpose. We collect the minimum we need to run Svadhyay; nothing about your reading is sold to anyone.

Sign in with Google

Svadhyay offers Sign in with Google so you can create and access your account without managing a separate password. We use Google's standard OpenID Connect sign-in and request only the basic openid, email, and profile scopes. We do not request access to Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, your Contacts, or any other Google service.

Google user data we access. When you choose Sign in with Google, Google returns a signed token that contains:

  • your Google Account ID — a unique identifier (the OpenID sub claim);
  • your email address (and whether Google has verified it);
  • your name (given and family name); and
  • your Google profile picture, if you have one.

How we use it. We use this data for a single purpose — authentication. On your first sign-in we create your Svadhyay account; on return visits we use your Google Account ID to recognise you and sign you in. Your email address and name are used to populate and identify your Svadhyay profile. That is the entire use.

What we never do with it. We do not use your Google data for advertising. We do not sell it or share it with any third party. We do not use it to train any AI model — ours or anyone else's. We never read your Gmail, Drive, Calendar, or Contacts, because we never request access to them.

Storage and deletion. This data is stored on infrastructure we operate, encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest, and is deleted when you delete your Svadhyay account (Profile → Delete account). You can also revoke Svadhyay's access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.

Svadhyay's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. (Sign in with Apple works the same way: we receive only your name and email — or Apple's private relay address — and use them solely to create and access your account.)

What we store

Your account identity — your name and email address (from Sign in with Google or Apple), an optional phone number you can add for account recovery, and a display name. If you turn on the AI tutor, the conversation messages exchanged with Svadhyay. Books you upload stay on our object storage; we extract chapters + concepts and throw away duplicate raw bytes.

What we don't do

We don't sell your data. We don't train third-party models on your private content. We don't track you across the web. There are no third-party advertising pixels on this site.

AI providers

When you chat with a chapter, we send the relevant book passages and your message to a self-hosted language model running on infrastructure we operate. Your conversations are not sent to a third-party LLM API, and they are not used to train any model.

Your controls

Export everything from Profile → Storage. Delete your account from Profile → Delete account; we erase your records and tombstone the row within 30 days.
